Back pain physical therapy in Las Vegas

Most back pain is not a damaged spine.

Most low back pain is not a damaged spine. It is a back that has lost the capacity for what you are asking it to do, and it tells you so at the end of the day, after a drive, or two days after the gym.

When back pain needs more than time

Rest helps the first episode. By the third, rest has stopped working and the gaps between flare-ups are getting shorter. That pattern is the reason to come in, not the severity of any single episode.

  • Pain that returns every few weeks without an obvious cause
  • Morning stiffness that takes an hour to ease
  • A back that gave out once and now feels unreliable
  • SI joint pain on one side, worse on stairs or standing on one leg

What usually turns out to be driving it

Three things account for most of what we see: hips that no longer share the load, a trunk that cannot brace under weight, and a daily pattern of sitting and lifting that keeps provoking the same tissue. None of them show on a scan, which is why a clear MRI and ongoing pain are not a contradiction.

What the first visit involves

An hour, one-on-one. We take the history properly, screen for the small number of things that need a doctor rather than a therapist, then assess how your spine, hips and trunk actually move and load. You leave with a plan and two or three things to do, not a printed sheet of twelve.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need an MRI before starting physical therapy?

Usually not. Imaging changes the plan in a small minority of cases, and disc changes show up on scans of people with no pain at all. We screen for the signs that do warrant imaging and will tell you plainly if you need a referral.

  • Should I stop lifting while my back hurts?

Almost never completely. Backs get stronger with load and more sensitive without it. We usually change the lift, the range or the weight rather than remove it, so the tissue keeps adapting while symptoms settle.

  • How long does low back pain take to settle?

Most people notice a change within two to three weeks and are back to full activity in six to twelve. Pain that has been there for years takes longer, and the first thing to improve is usually capacity rather than pain.
