Sciatica treatment in Las Vegas

Several problems get called sciatica.

True nerve involvement, referred pain from the joints of the back, and gluteal tendon pain can all send symptoms down the leg, and the three need different plans. Sorting out which one you have is the first visit. The plans look different from week one.

What tells them apart

  • True nerve pain: numbness, pins and needles, or weakness alongside the pain
  • Referred pain: aching in the buttock and thigh, rarely past the knee, no numbness
  • Gluteal tendon pain: tender on the outside of the hip, worse lying on that side
  • A clear pattern of what makes it better and worse, which differs for each

What we do about it

If the nerve is involved, we work on how it moves and glides, reduce what is compressing it, and build trunk and hip strength to keep the pressure off. If it is referred, the treatment targets the joint and the load through it.

When it is not us you need

Progressive weakness, numbness around the saddle area, or changes in bladder or bowel control are not physical therapy problems. They need same-day medical assessment. We screen for them at the first visit and will send you on if we find them.

Frequently asked questions

  • How long does sciatica take to settle?

Most nerve-related leg pain improves substantially inside six to twelve weeks. The leg symptoms usually retreat toward the back before they disappear, which is a good sign even though the back can feel worse for a few days.

  • Should I rest until it stops hurting?

No. Extended rest makes nerve pain more persistent, not less. We find positions and activities that do not provoke it and keep you moving within those, then expand the range as the nerve calms down.
